Communications

Communication is essential for any country to function with the outside world. On some occasions the roads of communication disintegrate much like they have in the Southern Cameroons. The destruction of the roads leading in and out of the various parts of the Southern Cameroons has kept the residents living basically in their own little world.

In the late 50’ and throughout the 60’s the Southern Cameroons were free to travel from one country to another over the various road systems that were put into place. Throughout the years the La Republique du Cameroon has changed that. The roads have become destroyed expect for a select few. These few roads take the people of Southern Cameroon through the borders of Nigeria before they can actually travel safely to another “state” in Southern Cameroon. The roads that were once in place are now not safe to travel by any means possible. The only paved roads are the roads of the colonized areas which are very few. These paved roads are only used to export goods such as the coffee and timber that the Southern Cameroons are known for. Military personnel also travel these roads in order to keep the fear of authority present in the Southern Cameroon people.

Transport by land and sea is no longer present in the area. There was once a sea port as well as an airport to export goods but it has now been left to deteriorate as well. The export procedures have now been taken to the La Republique du Cameroon. In addition to the air and sea transport being no longer available in the Southern Cameroons the telecommunications have also dwindled to basically nothing. Everything that had been in place for telecommunications in the area was taken back to La Republique du Cameroon.

Communication is important to keep people and place in contact with one another. When one is suppressing that contact it is inevitable that the area will become subdued.
